About One Detailed Mama

Hi! I am Jodie and I can’t wait to tell you my story! Well, if I am being brutally honest, sharing my story is a bit nerve-wracking! I am hoping my journey of ups and downs will inspire and motivate you to take action in your own life. The confidence I have gained from organizing, decluttering, and simplifying my life has been far more impactful than I could have imagined.

I am the mom to three pretty cool kids. They are 19, 17, and 15. My journey really started after I had my third child. Having three kids under 5 was utter chaos. I found myself cleaning and running around so much that I was not enjoying quality time with them. It was heartbreaking. It was then that I started to think about a life overhaul. I have always been pretty organized, but this was my lightbulb moment. I didn’t want to miss these special years. And I was. I began by looking at all of the different ways that I spent my time. The result is quite a few years of simplifying and organizing my life so that I wasn’t running myself ragged picking up Legos and Barbies while my kids grew up in the distance.

In a past life before I had children, I was a 5th grade teacher. I decided to stay home with my kids while they were growing up. While I stayed home, I did a lot of volunteering at my kids’ school. I ran the volunteer art program for 4 years, which was very rewarding. With such a large responsibility, I really had to learn how to master the art of time management. Also, organizing art supplies for 40 art docents and 650 kiddos really helped me refine my skills. I have been able to use what I learned in all aspects of my life, and I am eager to share these experiences with you (the good, the bad, and even the ugly).

Unfortunately, I was only able to volunteer when they were in elementary school. I volunteered some at the middle school, but the eye rolls and “Mom, what are you doing here” comments were a bit of a deterrent. I am happy to say that those awkward years have come and gone, and I am able to show up to help at the high school without the devastating heartbreak of the dreaded “I don’t know you” comments.

Throughout my journey, I have survived a high conflict divorce, and I am happily on the other side. Now I am happy to report that I am beyond blessed to have found a man whom I adore. Between us, we have 5 kids. We also have 5 dogs (long story), so life is still full of surprises, to say the least. Throughout all of the ups and downs, I can honestly say relying heavily on cutting out all the noise and clutter of daily life has helped improve my quality of life tenfold.

Now that my children are older, it is rewarding to sit back and reflect on how I got here. The difference is now I work smarter, not harder. I am really hoping that you can get some information, tips, and tricks that will make your life easier. Honestly, we don’t need to reinvent the wheel with each person, and sharing is caring, as they say.

I can’t wait to share my journey with you. It would be even more amazing if you did it much better than I have! Thanks so much for being here!
