I have been organizing, decluttering and simplifying my life for as long as I can remember. Over the years, I have discovered some home organizing products and solutions that have made my life a lot easier. There has been a lot of trial and error to say the least. Sharing these solutions will hopefully help you organize your home like a pro!

Organizing Bins!

Weather Tight Plastic Bins – These bins are the cornerstone of my garage organizing system, and they are a home organizing product I swear by. I have tried so many plastic bins over the years that I have lost count. This actually led to me wasting a lot of money on items that just weren’t right for my spaces. One perfect example is when I purchased adorable green and red bins for my Christmas storage. Unfortunately, they fit very awkwardly on my garage shelving and took up a ton of space. Ugh. I ended up needing a storage unit for all of my holiday decorations with these “cute” bins. I wish I was kidding!

What I love about the Weather Tight Bins is their shape. While you might be thinking that all rectangular organizers are created equal, that is not the case! I have found that the amount of items I can store in these bins is actually maximized due to their shape. They go straight up as far as possible and are just slightly rounded at the edges. I had rounded bins that were a bit prettier, but when I looked at my space, I realized that a lot of room was wasted due to the bins extremely rounded edges.

Changing to these Weather Tight Bins has made a huge difference. I actually moved all of my holiday storage to these bins. Spoiler alert, since so much more fit in each bin, I was able to get rid of my storage unit! True story. Money saved was almost $200 a month, so these bins were well worth it! Organizing Baskets

Hyacinth Bins from The Container Store – Inside my home, I do not need the Weather Tight plastic storage that my garage storage requires. These Hyacinth Bins from The Container Store are just beautiful, and I use them in my kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms for all sorts of things. They come in a variety of sizes, and they keep my items organized and tidy. So, this is item number 2 of essential home organizing products!

One slightly embarrassing story was when we remodeled our kitchen. We removed a walk-in pantry to open up the kitchen and family room into a great room. What I did not really think about was where I was going to store all of our food now that the pantry was removed. As an extremely together person, I could not believe my oversight! Hyacinth bins to the rescue. I was able to maximize some cabinets with these bins, and I actually love how they look and work in our kitchen. Bin Labels – To further utilize and maximize these bins, I found some bin labels that go along the edge. I also purchased some chalk tape and a chalk pen. I don’t like to write directly on the labels as I sometimes change around the bins and need to rename them. These items keep everything really pretty and functional. Clear Shoe Boxes

Clear Shoe Boxes – Another great home organizing product I literally can’t live without is the clear shoe box! You can get them at Amazon, and it would be far easier for me to list what I don’t use them for rather than what I do. Seriously, the possibilities are endless. I use them in the bathroom to organize bandages, different types of medication etc. They also come in handy used in the garage to separate craft supplies and all of my screwdrivers, tools, furniture care etc. I absolutely love that they are clear, so it is very easy to see everything inside. Using them without the lids helps to keep my cleaners organized and easy to find. Honestly, I cannot live without these! Take a look here:

Home Management Notebook

Notebooks – Another item that I swear by are notebooks. Yep, you heard me right! The old school notebooks my kiddos use for schoolwork, I use to organize papers I access all the time. I have a home management binder notebook for my entire family and home. Need to email the Biology teacher? Get the notebook! I keep important items like utility info, emergency phone numbers, meal planning, to do lists in this notebook, and it has saved me a ton of time (and tears)!

Food Storage

OXO Kitchen Storage Containers – These storage containers are the only ones I have found that are truly sealed like Fort Knox. I have a thing about food freshness. I am actually obsessed with it as one time over 20 years ago I found some little bugs in my flour even though it was in a container that was supposed to be sealed. This memory still affects me to this day. And yes, I have issues…..

The OXO containers have been life savers for me! They truly are seal proof, and I have never found anything in these containers that is not supposed to be in there! Amazon sells them in a perfect starter set, and they come in a wide variety of sizes:

Labels everywhere

DYMO Label Maker – Truth be told, I would label all of my children’s foreheads if they let me! I label everything! There is never any guesswork involved when anyone in my family is looking for anything. Almost every item I use to organize is clear, and I further help them solve the mystery by labeling everything so they can find what they are looking for without begging for my assistance. Aggravation and time saved is not able to be officially counted, but my best estimate is in the trillions! This is yet another home organizing product I would be lost without.

Drawer organization

iDesign Drawer Organizers – Last but not least, I use these drawer organizers for pretty much every drawer in the house that does not fit clear shoe boxes or baskets. I organize all of my make-up and skin care products, kitchen gadgets, desk supplies…you name it I organize using these! They are so easy to configure because they come in so many sizes, and having items in organizers just makes everything better! You can find them here:

Well, there you have it! These are the 8 items I simply cannot live without! I am so happy to have narrowed down my organizing essentials. There are many choices out there. Before being tempted by cute baskets and the like, you truly need to assess whether or not these will look cute AND maximize your space.
